Job profile summary:

Reporting to the Head of Digital Operations, the Digital Solutions Director is accountable for ensuring successful transition from the Digital Factory into Digital Ops. In partnership with product owners and functional teams, continuously improves quality, reliabity, and efficiency of digital solutions. Collaborates with Digital Factory, Portfolio Directors, Strategy and Architecture in the development and operations of Upstream Digital technical services (e.g. Mulesoft). Orchestrates resources to support Upstream’s Agile/Digital teams, Software Engineer and Citizen Developer experiences.

  • ​Partners with business value-stream Chief Product Owner(s) to support prioritization of the product/investment backlog and align delivery and services resources to deliver.
  • Accountable for executing the full product lifecycle whilst leveraging new ways of working in Digital operations.
  • Partners within Upstream Digital and other technical groups to ensure the portfolio is efficiently and effectively optimised to meet financial, architectural, risk, and cyber boundaries.
  • Collaborates with Upstream Digital stakeholders on the evolutionary direction of digital services (e.g. Mulesoft).
  • Collaborates with Upstream Digital development and operations leaders to define services to support Upstream’s Agile/Digital, Legacy, Software Engineer and Citizen Developer experiences.
  • Empowers Upstream’s extensive digital citizen community. Uses best of breed to build out user centric, secure, agile, highly integrated and collaborative self-service tool sets and solutions.
  • Balances cost effectiveness and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Drives efficiencies and continuously improves the operation and responsiveness of services.
  • Manages the budget and continually improves cost to operate estate year on year.
  • Provides insights to shape the Digital Ops agenda, landscape, capabilities and culture of excellence.

Job Advert:

Essential Education

  • Bachelor's degree, IT or related STEM field.
  • Higher level degrees e.g. MA, MBA, PhD and other professional certification and accreditations would be advantageous.

Essential Experience and Job Requirements
  • Depending on specialism, defines and manages business requirements from stakeholders to ensure that delivered IT&S products and solutions successfully meet those needs; or provides technical data management services for one or more specific data domain to improve data accuracy and efficiencies; or applies sound technology expertise to enable delivery of a specific emerging technology pilot.
  • Provides sound input and expertise to support the practices and processes for the specialism, and helps to ensure that all relevant standards are defined, maintained and implemented.
  • Develops effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, delivering sound technical knowledge and working collaboratively to support project delivery, queries, requests and issues.
  • Supports the delivery of process and system improvements, working with team members to identify continuous improvement plans for the specialism.
  • Complies with BP's Code of Conduct and models BP's Values & Behaviours.
  • Provides leadership and expertise to set the vision and mobilize, develop and oversee delivery of the strategy for the specialism, establishing relevant technology standards, governance and performance management and driving consistency.
  • Owns end-to-end procedures and processes for the specialism, driving transparency, integrity and operational excellence, and holding overall responsibility for the successful delivery of the team's objectives.
  • Maintains and establishes a strong collaborative network, developing partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders to understand evolving business requirements and influence long-term thinking, identifying strategic opportunities and risks beyond those evident from analysis.
  • Stays abreast of internal and external developments to identify and implement best practice methodologies and emerging technologies, promoting knowledge sharing, driving modernization and leading continuous improvement efforts for the specialism and more widely across IT&S.
  • Manages a large team of direct reports, demonstrating effective leadership to ensure excellence in delivery against plans and championing a continuous improvement culture throughout all activities.
  • In line with continuous conversations, have regular honest and constructive dialogue with team members to support performance and career development.
  • Ensures personal and team compliance with BP's Code of Conduct an d and demonstrates strong leadership of BP's Leadership Expectations and Values & Behaviours
